Steam Deck Layout

The default Steam Input configuration works well. For our recommended layout, see our Steam Deck guide.

How to Remap Controls

  1. Open MECHA CHAMELEON and press Escape to open the menu
  2. Navigate to Settings → Controls (or キー設定 in Japanese)
  3. Click any action to rebind it
  4. Press the new key you want to assign
  5. Click Save in the bottom-right corner

Recommended Remaps

Easier Color Picker Access

Rebind Eyedropper from Space to a side mouse button (Mouse 4 or 5). It is the most-used tool during prep and should be one click away.

Customize Crouch

Some players prefer Caps Lock or Left Alt for crouch — it depends on your keyboard layout and whether you use your pinky for crouching.

Reset Position for Beginners

If you find yourself running off the map, rebind Reset to a key near your movement keys (like Q or E) for quick recovery.

Save Multiple Profiles

Save separate keybind profiles for Hider (precision) vs Seeker (speed). The optimal layout is different for each role.

Common Issues & Fixes

Controls feel sluggish
Disable VSync and set mouse sensitivity to 1.5–2.0 in the game's settings. The default sensitivity is conservative.
Painting tool does not respond
The painting tool only opens during the prep phase. You cannot paint during the hunt. Re-enter prep to access it.
Eyedropper picks the wrong color
Make sure the eyedropper is aimed at the surface you want. Sample from the front of an object (where light hits) for the most accurate match.
Crouch does not work mid-air
Crouch mid-air is the ‘Slam’ fast-fall technique. It works only in specific positions — make sure you are airborne, not on the ground.

Best Settings for Hiders vs Seekers

Hider Profile
  • Mouse sensitivity: 1.0–1.5 (slower for precise paint)
  • Eyedropper on side mouse button
  • Crouch on Caps Lock
  • Reset on Q (recovery during prep)
Seeker Profile
  • Mouse sensitivity: 2.0–2.5 (faster camera)
  • Crouch on Left Ctrl (for wallkicks)
  • Lock-on toggle on Shift
  • Free-look on Right Mouse Button
