MECCHA CHAMELEON Beginner Guide
Never played MECCHA CHAMELEON? This guide takes you from launching the game for the first time to surviving your first round. About 10 minutes of reading.
What Is MECCHA CHAMELEON?
MECCHA CHAMELEON is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game where Hiders paint their bodies to blend into the environment, and Seekers try to find them before the timer runs out. The unique twist: your painting skill directly affects your survival.
The Two Roles
You start as a pure white figure. During the prep phase, paint yourself to match your hiding spot. When the hunt begins, stay completely still.
You are frozen during prep. When released, you have a limited time to find and tag all Hiders. Use your eyes to spot color and shape mismatches.
Your First Match: Step by Step
Launch & Pick a Role
Open MECCHA CHAMELEON on Steam. The lobby will show available players. You can host a game (and choose whether to be Hider or Seeker) or join an existing one.
Pick Your Hiding Spot (Hiders)
As a Hider, you have a prep period. Walk around the map and choose your hiding spot. Beginners should pick spots near corners, furniture, or color transitions — not open fields.
Paint Yourself
Use the paint tool (left click) to open the painting interface. Use the eyedropper (Spacebar) to sample colors from your hiding spot. Paint your body to match. See our painting guide for details.
Lock Your Pose
Right-click to wall-stick or use the pose menu to crouch, curl, or stand. Once locked, do not move. The hunt will start soon.
The Hunt Begins
Seekers are released. They have a few minutes to find all Hiders. Hiders must stay completely still. If a Seeker gets close and tags you, you are out.
Win Conditions
Hiders win if any survive until the timer expires. Seekers win if all Hiders are tagged. Play a few rounds and switch roles to learn both sides.
Beginner Tips
- Use the eyedropper (Spacebar) — do not eyeball colors
- Pick hiding spots near objects and color transitions
- Stay completely still during the hunt
- Sample colors from the angle a Seeker will see you from
